Vishay Releases New Paired High Speed ​​Infrared Emitter / Photodiode

Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced the launch of two AEC-Q101 certified paired high-speed 940nm infrared emitters and silicon PIN photodiodes VSMB 10940X01/VEMD10940FX01 and VSMB 11940X01/VEMD11940FX01 in a small 3mm x 2mm side-view surface mount package. The VSMB 10940X01/VEMD10940FX01 is 1mm high and the VSMB11940X01/VEMD11940FX01 is 0.6mm high. It is the industry's lowest-profile side-view product and can be used in automotive applications with the AEC-Q101 . All Vishay Semiconductors devices released today have an ultra-wide half-height angle of ±75°.

With its ultra-low profile, the VSMB10940X01/VEMD10940FX01 and VSMB11940X01/VEMD1194FX01 are ideal for use in printer displays, e-book readers, smartphones, tablets and ultrabooks, as well as in-car multimedia and navigation touchscreen infrared touchpads. The VSMB11940X01/VEMD11940FX01 has a height of 0.6mm, enabling a thinner design in these products, while the VSMB10940X01/VEMD10940FX01 has a larger sensing area for higher signal output.

The VSMB10940X01 and VSMB11940X01 infrared emitters are packaged in a clear, colorless plastic package using GaAIAs multi-quantum well (MQW) technology. The device typically has a luminous intensity of 1 mW/sr at 20 mA, a forward voltage of 1.3 V at 20 mA, and a switching time of 15 ns.

The VEMD10940FX01 and VEMD11940FX01 photodiodes have a solar shading filter that matches the 830nm and 950nm IR emitters with reverse photocurrents of 1.1μA and 3μA, respectively. Both devices can sense 780 to 1050 nm of infrared light with a dark current of 1 nA and a peak sensitivity of 950 nm.

The VSMB10940X01/VEMD10940FX01 and VSMB11940X01/VEMD1194FX01 have a shelf life of 168 hours and a moisture sensitivity level (MSL) of 3 levels as specified by J-STD-020. The transmitter and photodiode are RoHS and Vishay green, halogen-free, and lead-free reflow soldering.

Samples are available for the new paired IR emitter/photodiode and are available in volume production from eight weeks to ten weeks.
