OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has launched a new LED, Oslon Square, to open up a wider range of potential applications for designer or office lighting, replacement bulbs and street lights. This LED is available in multiple color temperature versions. It can operate at different currents and is extremely flexible and versatile. The reflective package used makes better use of each beam of light, improving system efficiency in various versions.
Oslon Square is used in a wide range of applications, from stylish designer lighting to street lighting. This new product has all the qualities needed for a wide range of LEDs. Like the Oslon SSL, the Oslon Square has a package size of only 3 x 3 mm, thermal resistance as low as 4 to 3.8 K/W, and is housed in a rugged package for outdoor use. In particular, it is worth mentioning that this universal LED can achieve extremely high system efficiency. Its LED chip is sealed in a reflective package that reflects the light emitted from the side or back for efficient use. Light reflected back to the LED in the system, such as light reflected from the water filter, can also be used in this manner.
Oslon Square EC is suitable for indoor applications that require high quality light, such as offices. At a color temperature of 3000 K, it provides warm white light with high color stability and an extremely wide viewing angle (120°). Oslon Square EC has a minimum color rendering index (CRI) of 80. If you need a highly uniform illumination, you can order a "fine-bin" (finely sorted) LED. When the operating current is 700 mA, the luminous efficiency can be as high as 90 lm/W or more, and the luminous flux is 200 lm or higher. When the operating current is 350 mA, the luminous efficiency exceeds 100 lm/W.
The EC version is also suitable for use as a replacement bulb. Because of its small size, it is only 3 x 3 mm, so it can be tightly packed; the EC version, like all other LEDs in the series, benefits from a reflective package, whether it is a single LED or in a system.
Oslon Square PC and UW are designed for outdoor applications such as street lighting. They operate from 200 mA to 1.5 A and are equally attractive for other applications such as downlights and spotlights. When the color temperature is 4000 K and 6000 K, the LED produces a white to cool white light. With 350 mA/W at 350 mA, it is more efficient than the warm white version and has a CRI of at least 70 (4000 K) and 65 (6000 K). These LEDs are high quality and efficient.
