Internet of Things or Enterprise Network Maximum Risk

According to research by Atomik Research and Tripwire Security, 63% of executives believe that business efficiency and productivity drives them to adopt IoT devices without considering security risks. Forty-six percent of executives believe that the Internet of Things (IoT) device may be the greatest risk to the corporate network.

Every employee at home office connects 11 IoT devices to the home network, and at least one-quarter of employees connect one of the devices to the network of the company. Most people do not have sufficient security for their devices. . Of these devices, printers accounted for 27%, routers 22%, video devices 20%, and video game control devices 14%.

Craig Young, a security researcher at Tripwire, said that changes in network monitoring and control strategies provide the basis for companies to quickly identify new devices that access their networks. Unauthorized devices can be identified by continuous or periodic network scans. The results of the identification can help administrators take active strategies to block or isolate unknown devices.

The report said that the survey interviewed 404 IT experts in the United States and the United Kingdom, 603 home-based employees, and 302 retail, energy, and financial services executives. Less than a quarter of IT experts said they have confidence in the security configuration of common IoT devices that access corporate networks. Specifically, the proportion of IT experts who have confidence in the secure configuration of VoIP (internet telephony), physical security sensors, lighting and air-conditioning smart control devices, POS (sale terminal) machines, and industrial control devices that access the corporate network are respectively different. It is 21%, 20%, 16%, 18%, and 12%. Interestingly, only 8% of the IT staff in the energy industry are concerned that cybercriminals are attacking industrial control equipment, and 88% of them admit that they have no confidence in the security configuration of these control devices.
