Among them, Sumitomo Chemical is a heavyweight supplier of sapphire substrate raw material "alumina", and Samsung once regarded LED business as one of its core businesses. "Strong cooperation" and expansion of LED market share in emerging countries and other markets, but due to the fierce price of Chinese manufacturers, the business environment deteriorated, forcing Samsung to decide to significantly reduce the LED business, and let SSLM embark on the fate of ending the production of sapphire substrates. .
After the production of the sapphire substrate at the SSLM Daegu plant, the existing equipment will be converted into a material for the production of lithium-ion batteries, which will become a special factory for the "separator".
The separator is a key material for determining the safety of the battery. Sumitomo Chemical's separator film product was adopted by Panasonic and shipped to the "Gigafactory" super battery factory jointly operated by Panasonic and Tesla.
