New edge-lit LED module design dramatically reduces costs

On April 26th, the professional market research agency Displaybank pointed out that the new backlight module structure simplification technology can greatly reduce the cost of side-lit light-emitting diode (LED) LCD TVs.

Taking 40-inch TV as an example, it is estimated that the average price of LED backlight modules will drop by more than 40% this year compared with last year. Simplifying the design will obviously help to save manufacturing costs.

In the early days of the market, the side-lit LED-backlit TVs were generally designed with four light bars on four sides, that is, two light bars were placed on the upper and lower sides of the panel, and one light bar was placed on the left and right sides. Recently, the LED LCD TVs released on the market are different from the old ones. The upper and lower sides are all wrapped and designed. The upper and lower two are used, that is, the four LED strips on both sides simplify the design.

In addition, in order to simplify the design structure of the light bar, the industry starts from the packaging and heat dissipation and chip technology. The core of the simplified LED backlight technology lies in the stable and bright packaging process, and the increase of the heat dissipation components, and the chip area is also an important variable.

Due to the simplified design of LED backlight strips, the cost of this year's new LED LCD TVs has been significantly reduced compared to last year's models.

As TV manufacturers plan to market LED LCD TVs and 3D (stereo) LED LCD TVs, the global LED LCD TV sales this year surged 9 times compared with last year, reaching 32 million units, accounting for about 19% of the total LCD TV shipments.
