The author believes that this passage conveys to us three trends in the development of machine tools—Internet of things, intelligence, and automated production. At present, China's machine tools are still in the initial stage in these three aspects. Therefore, the next step, China's enterprises in the machine tool research, can start from these three aspects.

The first is the application of IoT technology. At present, China's machine tool industry has just made breakthroughs on the road to digital control. However, if we want to further improve efficiency and reduce costs, we need Internet of things technology. Followed by intelligence. There are many performances of intelligent machine tools, such as the use of process software, the ability to communicate with people, the ability to process navigation, perception and compensation of the working environment, and intelligent maintenance. The more intelligent the machine tool is, the simpler the production process is, and this is the trend of all manufacturing industries. Currently, the machine tool industry has done a better job in this area, including DMG and Daxie. These companies have deep technical know-how and they are farther away on the road to smart manufacturing. In China, there are also attempts in this area. For example, the five-axis horizontal composite machining center of Dalian Kede, the CNC pipe cutting machine of Han's Laser, Baoji Machine Tool, and the HSC-430, a high-speed drilling and attacking center of Huazhong CNC Co., Ltd., are equipped with professional technologies and production. Therefore, China's machine tool companies need to improve their adaptability to automated production. On the one hand, they increase the use of automation equipment in their own production. On the other hand, it is necessary to strengthen the ability to cooperate with automation equipment such as machine tools and robots to provide downstream companies with more extensive automation solutions.

In recent years, the development of China's manufacturing industry is strong. The rise of new areas represented by electric vehicles in particular has brought opportunities for the development of China's machine tool industry. However, we also need to pay attention to the fact that the emergence of new technologies also imposes higher requirements on the performance of machine tools. The development of networked and intelligent machine tools is essentially to adapt to new production requirements. Japan is farther away from the road of machine tool development. Their development process has a certain reference value for China's machine tool industry.
