If you use a personal aircraft that can rise and fall vertically, it takes only 15 minutes, and because of the cost of congestion, the long-term personal aircraft The cost is lower, so the question now is how to achieve it.
According to Airbus, Vahana can take off and land as a helicopter. It does not need an airport at all, and it can take one or two passengers at a time, with a cruising time of about 60 miles (140 mph), considering the advancement with technology. As battery density increases, its range of life is expected to increase further. If the plan is successful, Vahana will conduct a full flight test by the end of this year.
Another problem is that the FAA will certainly not allow so many people to fly to the sky. If you want to manage well, you have to rely on autonomous driving technology. Each Vahana is equipped with cameras, radar and laser sensors for 360-degree sensing. Like autonomous vehicles, Vahana's control system recognizes and avoids obstacles. But unlike cars, airplanes have no brakes, and the system must be able to determine how to bypass birds or other objects in a timely manner. From the Airbus demonstration, the difficulty is not too great.
According to Arne Stoschek, the current difficulty of the project is that the hardware requires too much energy to meet the required autonomous driving capabilities and cannot be implemented on a personal flight platform such as Vahana. But by 2020, the technical upgrade of the processor may make the situation completely different.
