Microsoft's mixed reality application in the construction industry

May 18, 2018, Beijing - Microsoft hosted Microsoft HoloLens and Hybrid Reality's first anniversary event in China, bringing together business users and partners from the architectural design, healthcare, automotive manufacturing and education industries to demonstrate Microsoft's hybrid reality technology In the past year, in the application of various industries, the representative of the on-site architectural design industry, Huajian Digital, explained the application of MR in BIM. Li Jiajun, general manager of Huajian Digital Technology, also accepted the media interview. ARC made the following integration in the interview with MR related content in the construction industry.

To the top network: What practical work did Huajian do for MR? How to reflect the value of MR?

Li Jiajun: We are mainly engaged in architectural design. Now our entire architectural design is based on three-dimensional design. There is a technology called BIM (Build InformaTIon Modeling). The building itself is a three-dimensional design. When the designer designs the building, it is also three-dimensional. Thinking about the problem. When he conceived, he was a three-dimensional idea, but when it was expressed, it could only be expressed in two dimensions. We use mixed reality to solve our role as a bridge between design and reality.

I said an example, we do interior decoration, I will have a lot of programs, my program communicates with the owners, the past way is to take a pile of drawings, everyone has done home decoration, how to communicate with designers, how are two-dimensional The drawing, this graphic is the door, this graphic is the window, not intuitive, you let him give me a rendering, I can tell you that the rendering is fake, because the rendering is for the sake of good looks, how to look good, it Not real.

Our 3D model is based on reality and is 1:1. It presents the real to you in different proportions and even 1:1. Going back to the decoration of this room just mentioned, half of the mixed reality is real, half is superimposed virtual, my six faces are real, and this row of low cabinets is the solution I want to design, I can superimpose it. Some introductions and delivery are able to meet or meet the needs of our owners, which is in the design phase.

How is the construction phase used after this plan is determined? Very simple. I will tell the construction team that the effect is such an effect. After our plan is finished, all the construction components in the cabinet are broken, and the final effect acceptance is based on the 1:1 acceptance of the three-dimensional effect. The property operator that will be handed over to us after delivery will work at the later stage of operation.

BIM's technology runs through the entire life cycle of construction engineering, and MR technology plays a very important role in the process. One is the delivery of the program, the exchange, and the synergy of many parties. This is the change we have made in this industry.

Pacific Internet: After applying MR (Mixed Reality Technology), what do you think is the biggest improvement for improving efficiency or solving some technical difficulties?

Li Jiajun: First of all, the first big is visualization. Let me give you a very simple example. We did a SAIC General Pavilion during the World Expo. It was a spiral, like a snail. The final place is a wall. This wall is not on a vertical surface. Our designers communicated with the construction team. For this wall, how to do it, the exchange can not be exchanged for two months. I was still at the group information center, and I showed him a three-dimensional model. It took half an hour to get it.

I also talked with the previous batch of media just now. Its visualization efficiency is not only the three-dimensional visualization, but our industry's three-dimensional technology plus the superposition of mixed reality, its solution, it can be done. Just give an example. In this space, we do interior decoration. I believe that everyone in the home improvement has experience and uses three-dimensional technology, including mixed reality. After our home improvement program is finished, will we make a three-dimensional model and deliver it? I will show you the 3D model directly, which is of course visual. What can we do in the second step? There is a low cabinet over there, I will show you how to visualize the low cabinet directly. I can give you a comparison of multiple schemes. The top low cabinet is still 1/2 low cabinet. The third step color and material can be replaced. The fourth step, when your plan is determined, my engineering volume is very clear, in 3D, it is completely based on the object, the engineering quantity is very clear, and the cost is clear after the project quantity is clear.

The construction process, the final completion acceptance is a three-dimensional acceptance, you have to do this I accept, you do not do this I will not accept. The designer told you that there is definitely a deviation from the understanding of the carpenter. It will be very troublesome at the end. After the construction, our model will be used for the operational phase. Like this cabinet, it is completely visual or can be seen now. We also have concealed works. Inside the ceiling, the fans and pipes are on the ceiling. If there is any problem, how can you repair it? We are wearing three-dimensional glasses to enter the room, you can project the equipment pipeline of these concealed projects to you, you are very clear where it is, it has other performance, maintenance records, other supplier information can be given to you, The future application prospects are very broad.

E-works: Your introduction today defines Huajian Digital as a new generation of digital transformation service provider in the construction industry. There are also many strategic partners. Microsoft is very important. We also see the provision of 3D technologies including BIM technology. Autodesk, you also elaborated on such a relationship, the future MR technology is a good complement or continuation of BIM technology, in the process of docking, including your strategic partner as both of them, there are some application difficulties in the process of promotion Or bottleneck?

Li Jiajun: MR in our construction engineering industry, especially in the architectural design industry, must have a BIM model. Currently mainstream tools for modeling tools come from Autodesk, with a market share of over 80%. At the beginning of the establishment of Huajian, there were three strategic partnerships. In addition to Microsoft and Autodesk, our strategic partners with Autodesk are mainly in the professional software industry. We have a process of combining BIM models, BIM technology and MR technology. It is difficult. I honestly say that in front of Microsoft colleagues, it is of course difficult.

First of all, MR's helmet is based on wireless. It wants to import our BIM model into the holographic platform. Then it needs to perform three-dimensional scanning modeling on these real scenes, and carry out a superposition. It has a set of algorithms. Because of its own set of algorithms, the ability to calculate itself, including memory, still has certain limitations. Chinese architecture is often oversized. When you take a very large building, the volume of the entire model, including the number of patches, is very amazing. This is also the year we have been working with Microsoft for a year, one of which is very large. The technology of tackling the problem is to solve the BIM model imported into the Holographic platform. What is more gratifying is that our entire technology has greatly improved the original bottleneck through our efforts. We feel that it is not enough and we must continue.

And we are also communicating with Microsoft. When we show in the general model, HoloLens's glasses are not particularly broad, especially for the surrounding environment. In the large-scale building display, we hope to pass the future together. Collaboration, providing our application scenarios, can help Microsoft speed up the iteration of his products.

ARinChina: Now a big problem, whether it is AR or MR, there are models occlusion problems and real object occlusion problems. Is there any solution for Microsoft now?

Li Jiajun: Occlusion Because our HoloLens is capable of perceiving the environment, what is environmental awareness, it has four environment-aware cameras that can turn the actual objects of the 3D scene into 3D models, and the 3D data is stored in the application or inside the system. With 3D Mesh data, you can mix with building virtual data.

913VR: BIM technology is being promoted. Do you think MR will become a necessary part of BIM promotion?

Li Jiajun: I believe so. BIM is a prerequisite for our application in this industry. If there is no BIM, there is no model. Mixed reality is first and foremost a bridge between BIM and reality. I always think so. There is no BIM 3D model, it is a wood without a foundation. There is no mixed reality light with BIM, which can be solved on the design side, but there will be problems when it comes to reality. Before we cooperated with Microsoft, we also had a lot of attempts in virtual reality. It can do some roaming and see our virtual BIM model, but it will encounter a very big obstacle. When I see this virtual model, There is no way to connect with reality.
