On April 11, the 6th China Electronic Information Expo ended in Shenzhen. During the exhibition, the development of the semiconductor industry was one of the hot topics. BOE, LG Display (LGD), Sharp and other companies have spared no effort to showcase new technology products. On the stand, 8K LCD TVs and OLED TVs are placed in key positions. In addition to OLED and quantum dot technology, Micro LED and Mini LED have been mentioned many times. On the other hand, the product layout of each manufacturer is more diversified and the competition is more intense.
At the same time, the "Three-Year Action Plan for the New Display Industry Beyond Development (2018-2020)" will be released soon. This policy will help the domestic display industry to improve industrial support and build an industrial ecological chain. Previously, during the implementation of the “2010-2012 Flat Panel Display Industry Development Plan†and the “2014-2016 New Display Industry Innovation Development Action Planâ€, the domestic display industry scale expanded rapidly.
On April 10, on how to promote the further development of the display industry, Qiao Yueshan, director of the Electronic Information Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said at the forum of the display industry that the first draft of the one-year and three-year action plan has been issued. Secondly, in strengthening the 4K industry alliance, it will continue to promote 4K content construction; third, it is necessary to further improve the 5G and other industry supporting facilities and hardware environment.
New fighting technology
In the current TV products, liquid crystal, OLED, and quantum dots are still mainstream technologies. However, more research has been done on Micro LEDs and Mini LEDs that have optimized the traditional liquid crystal technology. In addition to BOE, Foxconn, domestic Ruifeng Optoelectronics, Zhaochi, and Guoxing Optoelectronics all have Micro LED or Mini LED. layout. Not only the panel makers, but recently the news that Apple will use the Micro LED screen.

Zhang Yu, senior vice president of BOE, told the 21st Century Business Herald: "In the big screen, in addition to OLED, we are also studying Micro LED and Mini LED. From the display point of view, one of the shortcomings of LCD (liquid crystal) is now in the dark field. In the case, the screen is a little grayish and the contrast is not enough. But the Mini LED can be almost comparable to the OLED, the dark field can be completely black, and the price is lower than the OLED." Therefore, in the iteration of large screen technology, BOE also No decision has been made.
2 Foxconn
Also in the study of Micro LED, Foxconn, Foxconn Technology Group Vice President Chen Zhenguo introduced to the 21st Century Business Herald reporter, "Guo Dong (Guo Taiming) invested in Innolux has released the Micro LED car screen, this June, We will also showcase the large screen Micro LED."
Each of these two technologies is based on the fact that the display performance of the traditional LCD screen is greatly improved, and on the other hand, the attack and mass production of the OLED screen can be dealt with at a low cost.
WitsView perspective
However, WitsView, a photoelectric research center of Jibang Consulting, said in an interview with the 21st Century Business Herald: "In fact, the advantages of Mini LED compared with OLED are not obvious. At most, it is close to the same level, but because it is still The backlight system allows the panel makers that do not currently have the funds to expand OLEDs, and even the supply chain of the upstream and downstream backlights to have more space to play; related manufacturers currently believe that their cost has a better chance than OLED, but this is the LED used in the final display. There is a trade-off between the number and the optical distance. In addition, the heat dissipation and power consumption problems that have been derived have yet to be overcome, and the overall thickness is also a place to be considered on the terminal device."
"Micro LED is a highly integrated technology with TFT-LCD. Its advantages in terms of lifetime, color saturation, and reaction speed are relatively obvious. The display performance has a better chance than OLED; however, since each sub-pixel requires one The LED, the huge transfer rate is still the obvious bottleneck. In addition, the uniformity of the LED, the beat time is too long compared with LCD or OLED, and the difficulty of repair is the technology is currently commercial The problem that must be solved before the process." WitsView said.
LGD focuses on OLED
In another case, LGD also researched Micro LEDs, but focused on OLEDs on the big screen, and is currently the only company that can mass produce large-screen OLEDs. OLED wallpaper TVs, self-sounding OLED TVs, and six UHD 77-inch screens of cylindrical OLED commercial displays are all masterpieces of LGD. In terms of form, there are already methods of curling, folding, double-sided, bumping, and the like. According to data from a research institute, the number of OLED TVs in China will enter a period of rapid growth from the second quarter of 2018. Among them, the second quarter of 2018 is expected to increase by 118.8%, and the third quarter of 2018 is expected to increase by 120.4%.
However, the market share of OLED TVs is still very low, not yet reaching the level of 10 million units. Despite the rapid expansion of OLEDs, OLEDs and LCD TVs will continue to coexist.

A siren is a loud noise-making device. Civil defense sirens are mounted in fixed locations and used to warn of natural disasters or attacks. Sirens are used on emergency service vehicles such as ambulances, police cars, and fire trucks. There are two general types: pneumatic and electronic.
Many fire sirens (used for calling the volunteer fire fighters) serve double duty as tornado or civil defense sirens, alerting an entire community of impending danger. Most fire
sirens are either mounted on the roof of a fire station or on a pole
next to the fire station. Fire sirens can also be mounted on or near
government buildings, on tall structures such as water towers,
as well as in systems where several sirens are distributed around a
town for better sound coverage. Most fire sirens are single tone and
mechanically driven by electric motors with a rotor attached to the
shaft. Some newer sirens are electronically driven speakers.
Fire sirens are often called "fire whistles", "fire alarms", or
"fire horns". Although there is no standard signaling of fire sirens,
some utilize codes to inform firefighters of the location of the fire.
Civil defense sirens also used as fire sirens often can produce an
alternating "hi-lo" signal (similar to emergency vehicles in many
European countries) as the fire signal, or a slow wail (typically 3x) as
to not confuse the public with the standard civil defense signals of
alert (steady tone) and attack (fast wavering tone). Fire sirens are
often tested once a day at noon and are also called "noon sirens" or
"noon whistles".
The first emergency vehicles relied on a bell. Then in the 70s,
they switched to a duotone airhorn. Then in the 80s, that was overtaken
by an electronic wail.
