Cisco or sells wireless router business: Selling for less than $500 million

According to foreign media reports, Cisco or sold wireless router business, the price is less than 500 million US dollars, Cisco has hired Barclays to find buyers for the Linksys wireless router business.

According to sources, some TV manufacturers may be interested in Linksys because it will help them strengthen their brands and technology. Cisco bought Linksys for $500 million in 2003, and the price for this sale may be much lower than this, because home routers are already a low-margin, mature consumer business.

Cisco and Barclays spokesman declined to comment on the news.

Cisco is currently implementing a strategy to exit multiple consumer businesses while strengthening enterprise software and technology services. Selling Linksys is part of this strategy. Due to Cisco's poor performance in entering the consumer market, Cisco CEO John Chambers laid off 7,800 people and closed its Flip video camera business in the past year.

In addition to Linksys, Cisco also owns the Scientific Atlanta set-top box business in the United States and the NDS Group, a pay-TV channel software developer. The latter software is used by Sky Broadcast Group, Canal Plus and DirecTV. Cisco bought NDS for $5 billion in July this year.

Barclays is also helping Google to sell Motorola's mobile home business. The main products of this business include set-top boxes and equipment used by cable TV operators.
